名取市閖上は津波で町の半分以上が消滅した地域です。閖上中学校の前には、震災の体験を語り継ぐための資料展示や語り部の会などを行う施設「閖上の記憶」が在ります。震災から29か月めの月命日の8月11日、この施設の増築記念式典が開催され、それに併せて復興コンサート「追悼と復興への祈り」を行いました。 

演奏は仙台フィルハーモニー管弦楽団のヴァイオリン小川有紀子さん、ヴィオラ御供和江さん、チェロ山本純さん、そして元仙台フィルのヴァイオリン山本靖子さんによる弦楽四重奏です。演奏者は最初に校舎前の慰霊碑を訪れ、津波の犠牲になった14名の中学生に、そしてこの町の方々のために祈りを捧げました。 
 会場にはおよそ50名の方々が集まりました。演奏はメンデルスゾーン「緑の森よ」に始まり、モーツァルト「ラクリモーサ」、日本の唱歌メドレー、最後にみんなで「花は咲く」を一緒に歌い、多くの方が涙を流していました。

外は陽炎が立つほどの炎天下と草いきれ。《私は何を残しただろう》という歌う声は、消え去った町に吹く風のように思われました。

More than half of the Yuriage area of Natori was destroyed by the tsunami. A concert, “A Prayer of Mourning and Rebirth” was performed at a document exhibition of “Memories of Yuriage”. 
The performers: Yukiko Ogawa (Violin), Yasuko Yamamoto (Violin), Kazue Mitomo (Viola) and Jun Yamamoto (cello), first paid their respects at a memorial in front of the junior high school, and then offered a prayer for the fourteen junior high students and other townspeople who lost their lives in the tsunami. 
At the end of the performance, everyone in the hall joined in to sing “Flowers Will Bloom”. Audience members and staff alike could not hold back their tears. The words, “What will I leave behind?” hung heavily over the devastated city.
